What do we play?

We play music from the 60’s up to the biggest hits of today a well as a hand full of originals. The genres we cover are mostly Rock, Folk, Indie and a bit of Blues. We take these songs/ genres and make them our own. We have also recently been writing and performing our own music which is more in the direction of a Jack Johnson feel.

We regenerate the songs in the direction of Rock/Reggae-rock as well as Folk. But we also don't like to really label our music with a specific genre as we have such a wide variety of songs. The best way to describe our sound would be "easy listening' as well as 'soul enriching'. Our favourite influencers are Bob Dylan, Jack Johnson, Neil Young, Pink Floyd, Live, The Kooks and Kings of Leon.

Who we are and where it all began

We are two best friends from high school that only discovered our magical music fusion after many years of friendship. The founding member, Francois Roux, started the band in February 2017 with two other members (PJ Janse and Bradley Bath). After some personal issues the band was split but the dream kept going.

Throughout 2015 and 2017 mostly Francois taught and discovered new star rising by the name Storm Opperman and when the original trio was split, Storm was asked to join the band, by taking him under his wing to see where it would lead.

We started out as an acoustic duo with both of us singing accompanied by our two acoustic guitars as we didn't want to make things to complicated. Recently we have incorporated the electric guitar to add some emotion to our sound but our brand has grown into the look and sound of simple/laid-back music as we feel that the world has become so rushed with electronic and edited music. We love live music and believe that anything we record must be realistic and we must be able to perform it in the same manner.

Where we have played

We have had the honor of performing at some very spectacular places and hope to see the world with music one day. We mostly perform at bars, restaurants and specific private events. Luckily our brand has recently grown enough so that small festivals have started to book us as well. The Stinging Rogers have also become quite popular at celebrity weddings and opening act for many respected South African artists.

Storm (Vocals + Rythym guitar)

Storm discovered his love and talent for making music by playing around with a ukulele during his early high school years and switched over to the guitar towards the end of it.  However, he has a genetic musical background with regards to famous family ties and he acquired the necessary skills very quickly. After matriculating in 2015, Storm began working at a local bar in Stellenbosch where music surely had it's own influence.

He also completed a couple of courses over the same time.  The following year, he traveled to a few European countries, such as France and Spain to work in the yachting industry.  However, while abroad, he found he had more of a liking towards busking on the city streets than for dock-walking.  On his return to South Africa, he began fully pursuing a music career and applied to studied at COPA from the commencing year.

Storm and Francois began performing together at the end of 2017 and have accomplished some serious milestones since then like performing with/at a variety of South Africa’s most popular artist and venue’s with The Stinging Rogers.
